ADF policy update relating to hip Arthroscopy services

The Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) recently restricted access to the Medicare benefits previously available relating to hip Arthroscopy services for the management of femoroacetabular impingement.

As these MBS items are no longer available, this service now falls under restricted services and requires explicit approval from the referring ADF Medical Officer (MO).

As part of the approval process you must provide Clinical reasoning and justification in writing to the MO, detailing why you think a hip Arthroscopy service is required. Payment relating to these services will only be processed where specific approval, in writing from the referring MO, is attached to your invoice and provided to the ADF invoicing team.

For more information on restricted services please refer to the Operational Procedures Guidelines.
