Flu shots & occupational vaccination

Vaccination can help prevent influenza and other infectious diseases.

We offer workplace and in-clinic flu vaccination against Pandemic H1N1 and seasonal influenza.

We also provide vaccination to protect workers against other infectious occupational hazards, such as Q Fever, Hepatitis A and B.  We also vaccinate for tetanus, yellow fever, rubella, meningitis and more.

Book a workplace vaccination program

  • call 1300 653 523 or contact your local Medibank Health Solutions workplace health clinic to arrange a date and time for your staff to be vaccinated
  • make contact as early in the year as you can to ensure that we can meet your needs
  • when deciding the number of staff to be vaccinated, assume that at least 50% will take up the offer
  • find a suitable room for our nurse to use to vaccinate your employees. The room should provide a level of privacy and be easy for employees to access.

Promote the vaccination program

Six weeks before the vaccination date

  • send an email or SMS to all staff to provide information on dates and times for vaccination (we can provide a template email in html for your use, free of charge)
  • add information about the dates and times for vaccination to your employee intranet site. Add a link to our influenza website for those emplyeess who want access to more information about influenza

Three weeks before the vaccination date

  • place posters in the lunchroom or in a place where people will see it (for example near the lifts, for those working in an office building) We can provide you with posters free of charge
  • if you are using our online influenza booking system, send an email to your staff requesting that they make an online booking at least a week before the vaccination date (we provide you with this email in html, free of charge).

One week before the vaccination date

  • send a reminder email or SMS to staff. If the numbers wanting to be vaccinated differ greatly from the number you booked, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can plan for any possible change in your requirements

Two working days before the vaccination date

  • contact us to confirm numbers to be vaccinated
  • provide us with any special information about your workplace - for example, will our nurse have to be 'signed in" or climb a flight of stairs to get to the room you have set aside for vaccination? Is there parking at or near the workplace (this is preferred as our nurses do need to carry the vaccines etc)?
  • send employees a reminder email that the clinic is happening (employees who have booked using our online system will be automatically sent a reminder email)
  • ask your employees to wear clothing that will allow them to quickly and easily expose their upper arm to the vaccinating nurse

On the day

  • encourage employees to turn up for their vaccination on time
  • ensure all employees have signed their consent form
  • ensure that anyone who thinks that they may be pregnant tells the vaccinating nurse
  • we recommend that employees remain in the workplace for 15 minutes after vaccination in case of a negative reaction.
