'Healthy Generations' program launched
Masterchef Australia season 1 contestant Geni Papacostas launched the first of our new 'Healthy Generations' programs last night at Mill Park Heights Primary School in Melbourne.
12 February 2010
The 'Healthy Generations' program is a new and innovative program for parents of primary school aged children designed to foster healthy eating habits amongst primary school children through behavioural psychology and cooking skill.
Parents from Mill Park Heights Primary School in Melbourne, The Queen of Apostles Catholic Primary School in Brisbane, Bridgewater Primary School in Adelaide Hills, and Stirling East Primary School in Adelaide Hills have signed on to the program. Masterchef Australia season 1 contestant Sandra Moreno will cook up the Brisbane programs, and professional chef Allie Reynolds will fry up the Adelaide programs.
Geni says she is excited to be a part of a program with the potential to make a real impact on the lives of children and adults.
“There can be no doubt Australians have a love affair with food, but regrettably we do not always make the right choices. Sensible eating is an important life skill that parents need to teach their children from a young age, and an understanding of basic cooking skills underpins this.
“The food our kids eat affects everything they do – their mood, their behaviour, their health, and their ability to concentrate in school.
“Unfortunately our busy lifestyles mean that many people have missed out on acquiring the essential knowledge necessary to make informed choices about food, or learn the basic skills needed to cook nutritious food in the home. This program is designed to close those gaps.
“I am excited to be involved in the development of the Healthy Generations Program, and cannot wait to get out and start sharing the joys of cooking delicious and nutritious food when the program begins in February,” Geni said.
