Temporary Visa

Temporary Visa

  • Visitor / Business Visa - for people visiting family, or for business meetings or tourism for short periods. Visa codes begin with '6' or '9'.
  • Temporary Residence Visas - for people who intend to come to Australia temporarily for business, study, longer, sponsored stays. Visa codes begin with '4' or '5'.

If you intend to apply for a permanent visa at a later date, please make an appointment for a permanent visa medical examination. You need to be aware that any medicals that you undertake are only valid for visa application purposes for a period of 12 months, or sometimes less, and must be valid at the time that your application is decided. If in doubt contact DIAC on 131 881 or contact your case officer.

Temporary visa medical examinations include:

  • Medical Examination by a Medibank Health Solutions doctor, including Aged Visitor Health Checks (for some visitor visa applicants (subclasses 676, 679, 456 and 459) aged over 70 years (from 75 years of age after November 2009)
  • Chest X-ray by Medibank Health Solutions' approved Radiologist.  If you have had a Chest X-Ray for a visa medical by Medibank Health Solutions (or Health Services Australia) onshore in Australia in the past 12 months then you will need to telephone for your appointment rather than book the appointment online)
  • Nurse Screening - eye test, height, weight, urine test

Children 10 years and younger do not normally require a Chest X-ray.

In some circumstances. additional tests may be requested by the doctor.  All costs for any additional tests are to be paid for by the applicant (the person who requires the medical examination).

Most Medibank Health Solutions clinics take blood and organise chest X-rays if required, however some smaller clinics may be unable to do so. Please check prior to your appointment.

Women please note: To avoid having a second follow up appointment, if possible please make your appointment for at least a few days after you have finished menstruating. If however you are menstruating at the time of the appointment you may need to return after the examination for a repeat urine test.

If you are pregnant, you will not require a Chest X-ray until the baby is born but you will require a Hepatitis B blood test.
